General
Welcome to Alphacrucis!
We trust that your time of learning at AC will be both inspiring and enjoyable.
This site is designed to get you started with your studies at Alphacrucis College. Work through each of the lessons below in number order.
For more detailed information on your studies, please download the Student Handbook for your course here.
1. Welcome to Alphacrucis
The beginning of an adventure...
You might not realise yet, but this is more than your first step in your studies... this is the beginning of an adventure. It is our great privilege to be your guide, but only you can take the journey.
We start off nice and simple, watch this welcome video.
2. Using Moodle
Your next step is to learn how to navigate around Moodle, your online destination for all your learning. If you ever want to get in touch with the Alphacrucis team just hit the blue button in the bottom right-hand corner of moodle.
Watch the two 5 minute videos below to get an introduction to Moodle:
3. Assignments
During your studies, it is very important to remember that assignment submission is your responsibility. Make sure you familiarise yourself with due dates for all your assignments. Late submissions can lead to failing an assignment.
Watch the videos below so that you understand how to submit your assignments on Moodle, as well as access feedback...
Submitting Assessments and Accessing Feedback (Turn-it-in)
'Turn-it-in' is a special assignment submission point that runs your assignment through a plagiarism checker. Please watch this short video on how to upload an assessment via turn-it-in and how to access grades and feedback.
Submitting Assessments and Accessing Feedback (Non - Turn-it-in)
There are other submission points that don't use 'turn-it-in', these are like the plain vanilla alternative submission point. Watch this video to learn how to use these to submit assignments.
Using Forums
Many subjects will require you to make forum posts during the semester. Watch this video to learn how to do this:.
Naming Conventions for Online Assessments
To submit your Essay or Exegetical Essay online you must submit a Microsoft Word Document file following a strict naming convention.
For the Essay, the naming convention is as follows:
coursecode_studentnumber_Essay1.docxSo, for example if my student number is X07999 and the course code is BXB327, the Essay file will be:
BXB327_X07999_Essay1.docCover Sheets
Every assignment you submit will need a cover sheet, placed at the front of your assessment. The cover sheet contains key details like your name, student ID, submission date, word count and declaration of authorship. You can download a template below.
How to use the Similarity Report
When you submit an assignment to a 'turn-it-in' submission point, you can run what is called a 'similarity report'. This gives you some idea if there is any unintended plagiarism in your assignment. Please watch this video to learn how to look at this report.
How to Correctly get your Word Count
Most assignments will have a word count or word limit given in the instructions for the assignment. If your assignment has a word limit, you must keep your total word count (not including coversheet, headings, references, abstracts and footnotes) within 10% (above and below) the given word limit. Watch this video to learn how to get an accurate word count for your assignments.
4. Library & Online Resources
The library on your campus has hundreds of books to help you learn and write your assignments. Your librarian is a very valuable person to get to know; they are great at helping students research. AC students can also access local, state and national libraries. In addition to physical libraries students also have access to online journal databases. Please watch these videos and then apply for access to libraries and self-enrol in the Library Information Page for access to eJournals and Online resources...
